Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
History – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was developed by the Gracie family in the 1920’s as a martial art whereby one could skilfully defend themselves against a larger, stronger opponent. With the advent of the Ultimate Fighting Championships in the early 1990’s and the success of Royce Gracie against martial artists of various disciplines in the mixed martial arts format, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu exploded in popularity and today is one of the most well-known and widely-practiced martial arts in the world.
Gray Beard Forge – Our instructors seek to foster an environment of discipline, respect, and community among students learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu together, right here in Conway, Arkansas.
- Discipline – Mastering a new martial art such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu takes a great deal of focus, discipline, and perseverance. All of these characteristics will be put into practice by students in classes, with a benefit of not only improvement in your BJJ skills, but in your ability to handle challenges in life as well.
- Respect – As the old saying goes, ‘it takes two to Tango’. We expect students to show respect to one another and help each other grow their skills in a safe and mutually beneficial way. Helping your training partner progress provides you with great joy, with the added benefit of growing your own skills in the art.
- Community – The students and instructors you’ll meet at Gray Beard Forge can all attest to the community built through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We’ve trained together for years, with our friendships having developed through a shared love of the art. We desire to see you develop new friendships, connect with your instructors, and help mentor new students. We want the people you meet at Gray Beard Forge to become your gym family, and for our space to be a place where you feel welcome and at home.
If you are interested in training with us, please don’t hesitate to reach out through our site or on social media. We would love to answer any questions you may have and hope to see you on the mats soon!
